18. November 2009 by Starr.
This is my first blog in awhile. I confess I have been going through quite an experience. I have had thoughts cross my mind as I have been going through this “situation” …..”maybe I should be different”….”maybe I should be more like____ or ____.” Sound familiar? One great thing about God is that during our moments of challenge and in our darkest moments of battle, He teaches us alot about ourselves. We get some AHA! moments of discovery that we wouldn’t have previously stumbled onto.
Please consider what A.W. Tozer has to say:
Rules of Self Discovery:
1. What we want most.
2. What we think about most.
3. How we use our money.
4. What we do with our leisure time.
5. The company we enjoy.
6. Who and what we admire.
7. What we laugh at.
When you consider these rules, do they line up for you? Can you see ‘you’ in the answers to those rules? When you consider your life and yourself…do you feel that you, perhaps are all wrong? If you look at difficult physical challenges in your own life or life of a friend of loved one, are they mistakes? Do you feel they are simply random? Do you feel that could perhaps fix something by trying to be like someone else? I’m sure all of us could answer yes to some of those at one time or another…but sometimes it gets the best of us.
Listen to what the psalmist sings:
“Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb. I thank you, High God- you’re breathtaking! body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration- what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day. (Psalm 139:14-16 MSG)
Before you took your first step, God knew every bone in your body. He knew the bones and organs that were forming correctly and the ones that weren’t. He knew the eyes that would never see and the ears that would not hear. He knows and cares about the concerns of our heart and He glorified in us.
Dear friend and reader, I don’t know where you are right now, or your situation…or what is on your mind and heart as you read this…but, I do know that God, knew us all…and He glorified in us. How then could we presume to believe we could possibly be random, accidental or different, no matter the challenges in our lives?
Growing and changing is a good thing, and sometimes we need to change a few things about ourselves to become better. But God doesn’t want us to be a DIFFERENT person, or to believe that we weren’t perfectly made on purpose, the way that He intended us to be. The key here, is to discover ourselves…find who we are in Christ….and then embrace the truth of who we are and stand firm, in not how we see ourselves and our lives, but how God sees it.
A prayer:
Father god,
Help us to love our lives as You love it. Help us to let go of everything we have been told and embrace the truth. Help us to see our life as you see it. I am overwhelmed by the great love that you show to those of us who feel we do not measure up. Thank you that Jesus showed everyone that he loves and values the gift we are to His body.
In Jesus name, amen
